Bio
Desirée Patterson is a Canadian photographic and multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of contemporary art, environmental science and public experience. Based in Vancouver, BC, on the ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, her self-directed artistic journey began during a solo expedition across more than forty countries. This immersive global experience profoundly shaped her perspective, sparking a lifelong commitment to exploring ecological fragility, cultural resilience and climate justice through art.
Desirée’s practice spans photography, installation, sculpture, performance and public art, often grounded in scientific research and collaboration.
Her recent work explores glacial transformation through interdisciplinary collaborations, using photography, sculpture and textile installation to bridge scientific observation with artistic experience.
Her work has been exhibited in nine solo exhibitions and over forty group shows, including international presentations at Somerset House in London and the Creative Climate Awards in New York. Her art lives in major public installations as well as private and corporate collections across North and South America, Europe, the UK, and Hong Kong.
A passionate advocate for environmental stewardship and interdisciplinary dialogue, Desirée has trained under former Vice President Al Gore and was a mentee in the Futures/forward program through the International Centre of Art for Social Change. Her artistic mission is to build bridges between science and the public, using beauty, materiality and immersive experience to foster curiosity, empathy and collective action.
